Practical Test

Your driving is up to test standard now and your are ready to book your practical test with your local test DSA Centre. To book your test phone on 0870 01 01 37 2 or you can book online here using DSA website. You can also ask your Drive Time instructor to book it for you. It is strongly recommended you don’t apply for your test until your instructor thinks you are ready. The national pass rate is 43% so make sure you’re fully prepared.

The examiner will first ask you to read a number plate from a distance of 20.5 meters or 20 meters for the new style number plate. You will then be asked 2 questions to test your knowledge of basic safety checks on your vehicle. One question will be show me and the other question will be tell me.

The driving part of your test will last about 40 minutes for which you will have to demonstrate that you have reached an overall safe standard of driving with due consideration to other road users. You will be asked to carry out two reversing maneuvers and possible a controlled emergency stop exercise. You are allowed to make up to 15 minor mistakes and still pass your test. However, if you commit one serious or dangerous fault, you’ll fail the test.
